
The Fruit Industry in
Chile is leader in the export of fresh
fruit from the Southern Hemisphere, represents
the third most important sector within the
national economy. It is also considered to
be a major strategic area in the development
of our country, by creating an important source
of employment and investment. Chiles fresh
fruit industry is characterized by more than
7.800 fresh fruit growers, 250.000 hectares
of cultivated land of fresh fruit, 518 exporting
companies, who send more than 75 species of
fruit to more than 100 countries around the
world.

According to the latest figures
from the FAO Index of the United Nations, Chile
represents 49% of the Southern Hemispheres
fresh fruit exports considering: grapes, apples,
kiwis, avocados, plums, peaches, and pears. Therefore,
positioning it as the leader in
exports from the region.

Today the Chilean fresh
fruit industry exports more than 75 different
species to more than 100 different countries
around the world, a clear indication of the
diversification and the adaptation to market
demands that characterizes the industry.
This export drive, has lead Chile to be ranked amongst
both the Worlds and the Southern Hemispheres
top fresh fruit exporters in a number of product
categories including table grapes and plums.
